What we renovate
Duotone renovates kitchens, bathrooms, living areas and whole houses across the Klang Valley. Many of the homes we take on are older or inherited properties: houses with ageing wiring, outdated layouts and finishes that have simply reached the end of their life. We treat these differently from a fresh unit. Before we touch a wall, we look at what is behind it, and we tell you honestly what a proper refurbishment involves.
Kitchens and bathrooms are our two most requested rooms, and for good reason: they carry more plumbing, wiring and daily wear than any other room in the house. We plan them around how your household actually cooks, washes and stores things. For larger homes, we look past finishes to the layout itself: whether a wall should move, whether a hallway is wasting space, whether the house works better with a different flow. An upgrade that only changes tiles and paint is a missed opportunity. One that reconsiders the layout tends to feel like a different house, at a fraction of the cost of moving.

How we prevent hidden costs
Hidden costs are the renovation complaint we hear most often, and almost all of them trace back to the same cause: work starting before the scope was actually settled. We define the scope in detail before construction begins: what is being demolished, what is being kept, what materials are specified, and what happens if we open a wall and find something unexpected.
Every quotation we issue is itemised and explained line by line, so you know what each ringgit is doing before you approve it. And when something is not advisable, structurally, financially or otherwise, we say so, even when it means a smaller project for us. A renovation that fits your budget and your home honestly is worth more to us than one that fits neither.

As a design-and-build studio, our renovation projects typically range from around RM30,000 for partial work, a single kitchen or bathroom, to RM500,000 and above for a full renovation of a larger home. Your number depends on the rooms involved, the extent of structural change and the materials you choose, and nobody can give you an honest figure without seeing the space. Where we work
Duotone is based in SS17, Subang Jaya, and renovates homes across the Klang Valley: Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Kuala Lumpur, Puchong, Klang, Kajang and greater Selangor. We work on condominiums, terrace houses, semi-Ds and bungalows, from a single room to a full house.
Living in the home while it is being renovated is common in this part of the world, and we plan around it: sequencing the work so at least part of the house stays usable, and keeping the site as tidy and contained as the scope allows. If the renovation is large enough that living through it is not realistic, we tell you honestly at the consultation, rather than after work has already started.

Can you renovate an older or inherited house?
Yes. Older and inherited homes often come with ageing wiring, outdated layouts and finishes that have simply reached the end of their life, and refurbishing them properly means addressing what is behind the walls, not just what is on top of them. We assess the condition honestly at the consultation and bring the home up to a modern standard, structurally and visually.
Who manages the contractors during my renovation?
Nobody you need to hire. The same team that designs your renovation also builds it, so there is one point of contact from the first site visit to handover, and no separate contractors for you to coordinate or chase.
Do you handle renovation permits?
Yes, we manage the process end-to-end, including working permits, submission plans, and coordination with third-party architect consultants where an endorsed drawing is required. Council approvals for structural work and condo management applications are part of the job, not your homework.
